WHAT LIFTING CAPACITIES ARE AVAILABLE?

Our range of Reid Portable Gantry Systems are available from 250kg up to 5 Tonnes Safe Working Load Limits.

Reid Porta-Gantry Rapide 250kg-500kg

These are perfect for for your on the road lifting operative who is on their own, these systems can be assembled and disassembled with only one operator within 60 seconds with no need for additional tools or equipment. Their dimensions are smaller than industry standard which works great for confined space or rescue scenarios. It's integrated wheel system folds as the frame is disassembled allowing for easy transportation.

500kg Reid Porta-Gantry

This Reid system conforms to all necessary safety and manufacturing standards. For better stability, these can be fitted with wind-up jack legs which offer you the ability to balance the system so it is completely level on uneven ground.

1 tonne Reid Porta-Gantry

This is the most popular capacity, you can configure this system up to 9m in beam length and 6.2m in height without compromising on lifting capacity. Not matter how high or long your system is, it's just as easy to assemble and disassemble. These can be assembled and disassembled by one person, but we always recommend a minimum of two for complete peace of mind when trying to conform to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1978.

2 tonne Reid Porta-Gantry

Like all our systems produced by Reid Lifting, the 2t gantry crane conforms to EN795:2012 standards and it ATEX certified. 

3 tonne Reid Porta-Gantry

We manufacture all our Reid systems right here in the UK, so you can be 100% certain that it will hold the SWL specified on the crane, in this instance it would lift and lower 3000kg.

5 tonne Reid Porta-Gantry

Due to the sheer weight of 5000kg, you might see some deflection on the beam, not to worry, this is fine as long as you're lifting loads in the specified working load limits. Deflection tolerances can be found in the safety manual if you're unsure. Deflection rates do differ between materials, in aluminium the tolerances are much higher than standard mild steel.

ARE PORTABLE GANTRIES SUITABLE FOR PERSONNEL LIFTING?

Yes, our range of Reid Mobile Gantry Cranes is suitable for goods, personnel and fall protection applications (WLL product dependant).

They're suitable for lifting up to 5 personnel for fall protection applications or for restricted access jobs. You must always ensure your personnel are wearing adequate height safety equipment such as a full body harness and a shock absorbing lanyard. We would always recommend the user to wear protective head gear like a Ridgegear Safety Helmet.

ARE PORTABLE GANTRIES CUSTOMISABLE?

Yes. Many of our models are completely customisable to suit your exacting requirements. You can select from A-Frame size, trolley type, castors, and beam length. Select your options from the dropdown menu on your chosen capacity.

Types of Castors

Every application in lifting is never going to be identical, that why we provide every type of castor wheels you require.

Standard Castors

These will come as standard if you do not chose to upgrade the castor wheels. In most cases, these will be more than adequate if you're using the gantry crane on smooth and even surfaces.

Directional Lock Castors

These are a great option when you're wanting to lock the wheel in place and push the gantry in a specific direction without locking the wheel completely. You'll want to use these uneven ground, the locking castor prevents the mobile gantry from rolling away. This upgrade is a necessity when lifting personnel on uneven gradients, or for when you want to corner or pivot the system.

Pneumatic Castors

These should be selected in your configuration when your using a portable gantry on ground that isn't completely smooth. The pneumatic castors are manufactured out of rubber and are pressurised, this will allow the gantry to run over bumps and loose ground. Both castors come with a parking brakes as standard.

Types of Trolleys

Most of the time a Reid PG masterlink trolley is the suitable option when selecting a trolley for a portable gantry, however, there are situations where you'll require a more specialised trolley for a specific job, and we offer them all.

Master Link Trolley 

This is your standard trolley for Reid Gantry systems. It's design ensured that the trolley is always safety seated on the runway beam. As standard it comes with a Gunnebo wide masterlink which allows you to fit any type of hoist onto the gantry. that can be used outside due to it's anti-corrosion coating. The trolley has a locking mechanism so it can be locked in a specific position on the beam.

Gated Trolley

It's similar to the master link trolley but it does have a rotating plate and a quick release pin for quick & easy removal of the attachment, this is especially useful for when you're disassembling the beam for transport or for when you need to have multiple attachment points on the mobile gantry beam. This does have a locking mechanism to allow the user to keep the trolley in a specific position on the beam.

Close Coupled Trolley

They are designed for low headroom operations where a normal Reid master link trolley is insufficient. It's small link reduces the headroom by approximately 50% depending on the gantry size you purchase. These are fitted at the point of assembly but can be removed when you need to replace it. Even though it's size is smaller, you can still accommodate a wide rang of chain blocks or electric chain hoists. IT also comes with a locking mechanism as standard to prevent accidental movement of the trolley.

Gear Driven Trolley

Some lifting operations require precise and safe movements across a mobile gantry beam, we'd always recommend this type of trolley due to it's ability to be driven across the beam via a hand chain. Allowing the operator to incrementally move the load from side to side. These trolley's can move loads from up to 2000kg. As standard these do have a locking mechanism and different hand chain lengths are available at point of order.

Mobile Gantry Beam Length & Heights

The reason why lifting operators choose portable gantry cranes isn't just because of their manoeuvrability, it's because you're able to customise your height of lift and beam length.

Beam Height

Selecting the right beam height is important if you are operating in a low headroom environment and you need to ensure your PortaGantry can fit under a ceiling or overhead structures. On the other hand, you might want to have the gantry as high as possible so the item you're lifting is clear of the floor. For example, you might be putting the load onto some moving skates which requires little extra height in order to get the skates under the load. 

Beam Length

Beam length is also important not just because of the operation it's being used in, for example, if you have a wide opening in your floor you want to ensure that your gantry legs are clear of the drop. But it's also important for some users to have the beam as short as possible so they can fit it in the back of their van.

WHAT MATERIAL ARE THEY MADE FROM?

As standard, our range of Gantries are manufactured from super-strength aluminium, but you can also request powder-coated mild steel and stainless steel options. The problem with mild steel or stainless steel is that you require more material in order to accommodate a higher lifting capacity.

Why is aluminium the preferred choice of material for Reid Gantry Systems?

The benefit for having them manufactured by aluminium is due to it's high strength to low weight ratio. Which makes them an excellent option for lifting operators moving the gantry from site to site. Our smallest gantry, the Reid Porta-Gantry Rapide has a super low weight of 37kg which makes them perfect in terms of portability.
