Pneumatic Chain Hoists

WHAT IS A PNEUMATIC HOIST?

Pneumatic hoists, also known as pneumatic chain or air hoists, use the power of compressed air to lift and manoeuvre heavy loads, and the ideal lifting equipment to have in any industrial environment.

TYPES OF PNEUMATIC CHAIN HOISTS

The standard range Air Hoists we supply are all of very confined headroom dimensions. However, we can supply Low Headroom and Extra Low Headroom Air Hoists. Pneumatic hoists can be controlled in a number of different ways including rope and chain control, pendant, and e-control:

ROPE/CHAIN CONTROL

Rope controlled air hoists possess a flexible control rope (often a small-diameter hose or cord) that runs down from the hoist to the operator’s position. Whereas a chain uses a lightweight chain loop that hangs from the hoist.

PENDANT CONTROL

Similar to a standard electric chain hoist pendant control, a hand-held pushbutton unit hangs from the pneumatic air hoist, where pressing a button opens the corresponding air valve to control lifting or lowering.

E-CONTROL

(JD Neuhaus Only) An extremely robust brass hand control (pendant type) lightweight and hard wearing. (Not suitable for sensitive operation).

PNEUAMATIC CHAIN HOISTS FOR INTENSE OPERATIONS

Pneumatic air hoists from JD Neuhaus, Red Rooster, and Yale are perfect for heavy lifting applications that require extremely long heights of lift, fast lifting speeds, intense operation, or simply where there is no access to electricity.

Our versatile range of Air Hoists provides quality options to suit all pneumatic hoist needs, such as purpose built non-sparking or ATEX explosion proof hoists, specialist hoists for offshore operations and even subsea variations.

Offering capacities up to 100 tonnes (100,000kg) combined with unthinkable heights of lift and optional overload protection to ensure load and operator remain safe even in the event of a calculation error.

Pneumatic Chain Hoist FAQs

How does a pneumatic chain hoist work?

Compressed air enters the hoist motor, creating rotary or piston motion that drives the lifting mechanism. The operator controls direction (up/down/stop) through a rope, chain, or pendant control.

What are the main advantages over electric hoists?

Unlike an electric chain hoist, a pneumatic air hoist can run continuously without overheating, which is ideal for high duty cycles, and requires fewer electronic components.

What’s the difference between a wire rope hoist and a pneumatic chain hoist?

Air chain hoists use load chains, are compact, durable, and great for frequent starts/stops. Whilst air rope hoists use wire rope, and are better for higher capacities and longer lifting heights.
