THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TELEHANDLER & FORKLIFT TIPPING SKIPS

One of the most prevalent waste management tools found in nearly every house building project is a tipping skip, a small forklift skip for easy manipulation and transportation of supplies and waste on-site, usually to larger skips that are then regularly emptied.

Meanwhile, Tele Skips, also known as auto-locking skips, are specially designed to automatically lock onto and exempt from the floating forks when in usage.

The tipping skip automatically secures to the forks when they begin to raise off the ground with the assistance of a gas strut or other mechanical means depending on the design.

The Tele Skips heel pins automatically lock and unlock behind the visible fork heels using the gas strut, rather than the traditional safety chain that forklift tipping skips are built with.

This ensures a positive locking when subject to heavy vibrations, shaking and taking a general beating on site!

Once loaded with waste, the Tele Skips are connected and tipped applying the arm itself. There is no pivot or self-tipping mechanism needed on this version since Telescopic Handlers are able to tilt their forks completely avoiding the need for any built in tipping mechanism on the skip.

The Tele Skips are gradually taking over from the traditional forklift tipping skip in circumstances such as on new build construction sites, where telehandlers are every day, and health & safety are red-hot.

Sadly, this industry has had to learn the hard way with several innocent lives being claimed by site accidents occurring as a result of Forklift Hoppers completely falling off the forks of them as a result of an incorrect operator input.

What Is The Difference Between the two versions?

Although the contrast between the two might not be immediately apparent to the eye of the non-specialist, the advantages the Telehandler tipping skip holds over the Forklift option are numerous. The Telehandler tipping mechanism indicates that no manual control of the skip is required. Once the tipping skip is positioned on the telehandler forklift, it automatically secures with the forks and can be tipped simply by adjusting the forks' angle from the safety of the cabin. No release level or safety chains needed.

What Are The Main Advantages of Telehandler Skips Over Standard Forklift Tipping Skips?

Speed on site - the driver does not essentially need to get out of the forklift cabin, which enhances the speed of the operations and competence of any site operatives.
Economical – the automatic tipping mechanism requires less components, making it a more cost-effective option.

Safety – as no manual handling of the tipping skip is mandatory, the self-tipping tele-skip presents a significant development in the safety on-site since the operator is not required to leave the cab and requires no assistance from additional personnel.
 

It should be noted that if you are operating a standard Forklift Truck and not a Telescopic Handler then you should opt for a standard tipping skip and not a Tele-skip since these have no ‘dumping function’ and there for it will not be possible to discharge the hopper.
