Round Slings

What Is A Round Sling

A round sling, also called an endless round sling, is a flexible lifting sling used to safely lift and move heavy loads using cranes, hoists and other lifting equipment. It is typically made from high-strength polyester or nylon fibres encased in a durable tubular cover. The internal yarn carries the load while the outer cover protects the sling from wear and abrasion.
Unlike chain or wire rope slings, polyester round slings provide a soft, flexible lifting surface that adapts to the shape of the load, helping reduce damage to both the sling and the item being lifted.

FAQs

How are round slings measured?

Round slings are measured by their effective working length (EWL). This is the usable length of the sling when it’s laid flat and ready to lift. Because they’re endless (looped), you measure the full loop and divide by two. Always choose a length that allows the load to be lifted safely without stretching or forcing the sling into tight angles.

How should endless round slings be stored when not in use?

Slings must be stored in a dry, clean area away from direct sunlight, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and mechanical damage to preserve their performance and prevent premature deterioration.

What signs indicate that an endless round sling should be removed from service?

A sling should be withdrawn from use if it shows cuts, abrasions, chemical damage, heat degradation, exposed internal fibres, or an illegible identification label.

How often should endless round slings be inspected?

Endless round slings must undergo a visual inspection before each use and a thorough examination at least every six months by a competent person, or more frequently depending on the severity of use or environment.
