We’re Committed To Change in 2018- Here’s why!

At LES we’re all about positive change, after all- we changed how Lifting Gear was sold online. “So why not continue to make a difference elsewhere?” I hear you ask. And that’s exactly what we plan to do!

As companies grow, naturally they tend to exert more pressures and demands upon the earth’s environment through an expanding carbon footprint, this often goes unnoticed for most smaller companies like ourselves, however, we’ve committed to taking responsibility for our actions.

Big companies are already making a difference which we feel should be something LES and other small companies aspire to replicate, we all have to pull together to do the very best for our planet, we believe that if small companies compound their joint efforts then we could obtain huge results and greener future for all.

Our long-term aim going forward is to become a totally carbon neutral company. There’re many ways in which we can begin to reduce our carbon footprint, some of which we have proudly already implemented:

Paperless- Our office is now almost completely paperless, after years and years of printing every single Invoice, Purchase Order, Delivery Note, Certificate, etc. we now store all documentation electronically as of 01.01.2018 This is estimated to have saved us around 24,000 sheets of A4 paper annually.

Recycling- All waste paper and cardboard is proudly recycled, we recycle around 100kg per month.

Packaging- Where possible we now re-use boxes or shred them to provide additional packing. We reduced the size of our packaging labels by 50% and anticipate that this will save around 1200 sheets of A5 label stickers. Introducing fully recycled pressed wood pallets made from compressed chipboard set in resin; this eliminates any requirement for solid wooden pallets, as these are just as stable and strong. As a result, we don’t cut down any trees for our pallets- Nice!

Solar Panels- Our electricity is proudly solar powered thanks to our innovative and energy saving solar panels conveniently located to catch the suns rays on the south-facing side of our building.

There are so many other smaller steps we’re taking to ensure LES becomes as carbon efficient as possible, I have spent some quality time discussing with the team our plans on how to be as carbon efficient as possible, and of course why it is important to us. It’s nice to see the teams so enthusiastic about what we can do to make a difference, amongst the agreed steps were the following:

Turn down office heating by 1 degree C, we hope this will reduce energy consumption by around 8% during the colder months when we use our heating systems.
Only filling the kettle with the required amount of water (this saves up to 72kg of CO2 per year)!
Turning off electrical equipment when not in use and always shutting-down computers when the working day is over.

What can you do to help as the consumer?

If you’re keen to join us in making a difference you can show your support in a number of ways:

Don’t print invoices/certificates etc. File them electronically and save the paper, printing energy and your ink.
Donate to Plant trees in the UK via https://www.carbonfootprint.com/uktrees.aspx from £12.90 (you don’t even have to get your hands dirty!)
Recycle/re-use our packaging
Dispose of any of our products/lubricants responsibly

As you can see we’ve committed and we’re taking action. Every day sees a further progression in reducing our carbon footprint as we grow on our journey to becoming the world’s number one lifting gear supplier.

If you have any ways in which you think we could implement to make a further difference, then please feel free to reach out to me or the team via any of our contact methods or social media.

Thanks for reading.
